Hello everyone; I know you all are ready to start teaching! Remember
just one more cycle and we are over if God willing, so let’s put all our effort
and do the best we can on this!!
I started my teaching practice on Monday, July 22nd, I am
working with an intermediate level this time; they are twenty one students and
I could see everybody is eager to learn the language.
I started a new unit; it is about adjectives. And to introduced the
topic I started teaching this two words: “so and such”. But before introducing
the new structure I developed a warm up activity. What I did this time was to
focus on what students had been studying before. As they had practiced “the
present perfect” I took advantage of that and asked them to create a piece of a
song using participles, for example, have you ever been to Paris? And so on.
They had to choose the rhythm for the song and then come to the front and sing
it as a group. I noticed students had a good time when singing and listening to
each other, at the end I can say it was a meaningful activity as they were
refreshing their previous knowledge and enjoyed a lot. Next, and to activate
students’ scheme I asked them to describe the most beautiful place they had
visited, so that they could use adjectives. They participated a lot, and then I
move to the grammar phase, I explained to students the form, meaning and use of
“so” and “such”. They did not have any problem so then I gave them some
practice, they had to choose whether to use so or such some of them had some
troubles while solving that, but eventually they got it. And as a final task,
they were to create sentences using the new structures. I felt confident when
teaching as I had worked with some of the students before. I just had some
inconvenient and it was regarding with my writing on the board. I don’t do it
so bad but this time I was going almost from corner to corner!! Believe me guys
it was a real shame. At the end the teacher gave a tip to me, so I would
appreciate if you share some more with me!!

I love the activity in which students had to create a song and then sing it; it was totally meaning and fun. I'm imaging them singing! ha-ha.
Did you do the chart that is in the pic? I love it; it's so colorful and I'm sure students won't forget what adjectives tell us.
And girl, my advise for writing better on the board is that you should practice. Besides, it was your first class in this semester and I'm pretty sure next time you'll do it better with the writing on the board. On the other hand, continue doing such a great job with the activities and everything!

JAJAJAJAJA dear Mary, so funy the writing part....but don´t be afraid of practicing girl, what I can tell you is that you should try to write in a bigger size...in that way you will have control of the space and you will realize in the right moment were the hand writing is going to....

Hello Mary!! Hey, It's really good to read this experience. I see you enjoyed a lot and your students did it as well. I liked the warm up activity; I will take it and incorporate it to my bank of activities. The rest of the process was nice as you gave them practice. Remember we have to predicate with the example! Showing and telling is better than showing or tellign. You got it? hehe With your writting, it is a matter of getting used to it. Just try to be straight and do not move your arm but your hand and wrist!

Pechu!!! You are a good teacher, and your development in class is just awesome! You will always do well, and your class was excellent. You had fun, and your students did too! You already know the group, so you know how to get them and how to perform your classes! Keep on with the good work :).

I could imagine how much you enjoyed this class, and do not worry for your writing, maybe you was nervious, because it was your first class this semester, I know you will do it better next time. ReplyDeleteI could see that you really enjoyed your class. I like the warm up activity you did because I think is very interesting for your students. I think that music a good tool to make students participate in the class. I´m sorry the writing part but maybe you were nervous. I know you will do it better next time!!!
