I taught my second class on Friday 20th, with this
group I have just done practice. I have not taught the grammar part. They are
studying “Phrasal verbs” so as a warm up; I did a matching activity some students got
some sentences containing phrasal verbs and others got the meaning of those PV.
They had to come to the front and paste them on the board so that those who had
the meaning could match them. Later, we checked them and everybody
participated. I think that was meaningful for them. Secondly, I taught a new
expression to students and asked them to write an example for the new one and
the one I previously shared with them. I checked that orally.
I did a quick review of the previous class that had
been about “separable and inseparable PV” students provided me with some
examples. And then I asked them to work in their book they had to rewrite some
sentences using PV. They did that without any problem. So next, I gave them a
filling in the blank activity they were to choose the correct verb and
preposition to complete the statements with the appropriate PV. To finish with
my class I divided the class into two groups and had a “phrasal race” I wrote a
regular verb in the board and in their
groups they had to write as many sentences as they could using that verb with a
correct preposition. For example, Verb= take, PV= take back. Ex: I had to take
back the shirt. It was the wrong size. I did that many times and my class was
over. Sometimes I forget to CCQ so the teacher told me that it is really
important to that all the time because he could notice some students did not
get my directions in the warm up activity.
Hello Mary!! I really like the way you describe your class. You are very specific! I think that the lesson was great. I liked the warm up activity; it was nicely developed since you include all the class. The others activities were varied and that is something great. The more you vary, the better the experience for your students. Regarding the CCQ, I guess we tend to forget that because we are not used to doing it; I think that we, wrongly, assume that all the students understand, and that is why the importance of CCQ. Hopefully, everything will go better in that sense for the next class. Keep walking!!
ReplyDeleteHello Prima! :D
ReplyDeleteWell, as all your classes, this was really full of energy :D that I like :D
The variety of activities is another good quality about this class and the meaningful learning that they convey.
When giving instructions or directions is really important the eye contanc with all the students, not only in the very moment of giving instructions but few seconds afeter the instructions have been given. You can detect, through students reactions or faces, if they really understood what to do or if they have doubts. Then you can explain in a different way or go ahead with the activity.
You are doing just great prima, keep on doing this way!
Hello my Crujita,
ReplyDeleteAll the times I have read your blog, you have described very interactive, dynamic and meaningful activities which is great.
In regard with the CCQ, I also tend to forget it. I know how important it is, but sometimes we assume that they have understood the activity correctly. Nevertheless, when I do it I don't only like to do it orally but physically, so I support the instructions' ss are retelling me by mimicking them, and then, I always do the first trial just to check if they are doing it right.
In general, I think you are doing a very, very good job Crujita keep on it! :)
Hello Mary,I like your class because I can see it´s full of energy. The class review is nice since you have the chance to explore their knowlege.I also like the phrasal race .Don´t worry so much about grammar, and even though it is important it can be included in the activities without explaining it separately.
ReplyDeleteHey! Well, you are always an active person, and you show that even in your class. Congratulations about it! It is good to have eye contact to explain or to give directions because it is a good way to have them work. I know you do well, and you are a good teacher. Grammar is a tough part, but it is essential to explain it. Your activities were nice as always. Keep doing well :)
